Andrea Jaramillo is a Mexican anthropologist and future digital journalist. She is currently studying a master’s program in journalism at ASU’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication and she is focused on telling stories from a cultural and an anthropological perspective. In Mexico, Andrea worked as a Research Assistant at the University Program for the Study of Cultural Diversity and Interculturalism of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), where she collaborated in the project “Remittances, migration and development of indigenous communities in Mexico.” She also worked as an online reporter for the Mexican news platform El Semanario Sin Limites, where she covered social, cultural, public health and political stories. She wrote articles about diabetes, racial discrimination, women’s rights, immigration policy and Mexican politics. |
Tim Johns is currently a Master of Mass Communication student at the Walter Cronkite School of Mass Communication and Journalism in Phoenix, Arizona. His emphasis is journalism. After completing his degree at the Cronkite School, he hopes to work as a broadcaster in the entertainment, international correspondence or business fields of journalism. Before attending the Cronkite School, he attended the University of St Andrews in Scotland and earned a degree in International Relations. He is fortunate to have lived in several countries across the globe in addition to his native USA. This international experience has helped him to craft a unique and diverse perspective that differentiates him from his peers. He has conversed with, lived with and befriended people from around the globe. He knows how to reach across cultural and personal barriers and connect with people who are different than himself. It is experiences and interpersonal connections such as these that inspired him to pursue journalism as his career. |
Lan Jiang worked for two years at the Ningbo Television Station, which reaches four million audience members daily. As a reporter for Ningbo's largest daily community news column, she covered various topics including art and culture, crime and local business. She participated in producing special programs, which require high-level storytelling and producing skills. Through this experience, she mastered communication skills in a traditional media setting. Lan is pursuing her graduate degree at Arizona State University. She will graduate with her Master's degree from The Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication in December 2017. After graduation, Lan hopes to be a professional social media communicator by strategizing digital interactions between her organization and its potential customers. |
Chris is a journalist and graduate student at the Walter Cronkite School of Arizona State University. Committed to gathering and distributing breaking news across media platforms, he specializes in audio, text and digital content. A graduate of Dartmouth College with B.A. in English, he is especially fluent in written and spoken communication and has relied on these skills as a dynamic resource during the two years he spent abroad in Berlin, Germany. His experiences working and studying there enriched him with a profound awareness of human rights concerns, cultural perspective and commitment to truth and independent thought. Since returning to the U.S. he has expanded his competence to familiarity with all varieties of journalism, including video and digital platforms, recognizing the value of true information and its reception as an urgent priority. He seeks to tell stories news audiences might not get to hear and to tell them in a way that is compelling and resonant. A global journalist, he remains committed to fostering understanding and compassion with his efforts. |
